A tragedy occurred this Monday morning at . A 77-year-old woman has died following a violent house fire. The disaster broke out on rue Victor Hugo. The victim is close to the former mayor of La Possession. His body was found in the swimming pool of a nearby home. An investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of the tragedy.

A fire broke out around 6:30 a.m. in a wooden house in La Possession this Monday, December 2. Around thirty firefighters from La Possession, Port and Saint-Paul were mobilized. A 77-year-old woman did not survive despite the intervention of emergency services.

SDIS received a call this morning for a house fire. A truck from La Possession, a truck from the Port and an ambulance from Saint-Paul were mobilized. When emergency services arrived, the house was completely engulfed in flames. During the reconnaissance we discovered a lady in the swimming pool of the house opposite. She unfortunately passed away“, explains Lieutenant Jean-Pierre Seraphin, head of the Possession center.

The facade of a neighboring house was slightly affected by the fire. More than 2 hours of intervention were necessary to bring the fire under control. “The structure collapsed under the intensity of the fire“, continues Lieutenant Jean-Pierre Seraphin.

According to the first elements of the investigation, the victim jumped into the swimming pool to escape the flames. The origin of the fire is not yet known, an investigation is underway.
