Affected by problems of racism in recent weeks, amateur rugby has also been affected by unusual acts of violence. Playing this season in Regional 3, the Thèze club (Pyrénées Atlantiques) was notably the target of a car ram attack having caused a fireas reported France Blue.
Car-ramming attack on an amateur rugby club
But what could the players and managers of the Avant-Garde Thèze XV rugby club have done to deserve such an outburst of violence against them? Nothing that justifies such an escalation, we imagine, the level of the last attack being enough to leave you speechless.
Saturday, November 30, it was nothing less than a car-ramming attack which targeted the premises of this Béarn club located about twenty kilometers north of Pau, an attack carried out using a car. stolen from one of the managers and causing a fire which irreparably destroyed the locker rooms.
“Some players had tears in their eyes when they saw this, they are dejected. They disrupted our lives as rugby players but also our family lives, it’s a big blow for everyone,” coach Vincent Chabbert told France Blue.
Third attack in fifteen days
One might believe, and that would perhaps be somewhat reassuring, that this is an isolated act, an imbecile expression of momentary and random violence. Unfortunately, the events of recent days do not point in this direction.
During the week, the club had already been the victim of a burglary. The previous week, it was an act of vandalism with the cutting of electrical cables at the stadium which pushed the club to postpone a derby.
In any case, a complaint was obviously filed by the leaders of AG Thèze XV. Who must now, while waiting for justice to do its work, find solutions so that the season can continue.
