RSC Anderlecht probably faced its most dangerous opponent this Thursday. FC Porto is a team, on paper, of Champions League level; the Mauves proved that they could be ambitious.
Sporting Anderlecht is starting to seriously gain momentum this season and if in Europe, it remains in two consecutive shares, the top 24 is almost assured with 11 points. FC Porto was certainly the biggest test, on paper, for David Hubert’s men.
“We were convinced before the match that we could win”, nevertheless proclaims Jan-Carlo Simic in a post-match interview.
“But we faced a great team, with a lot of individual qualities. We can be happy with this point,” the Serbian then admits. This point risks seeing the RSCA lose a few places in the ranking, but the top 8 must remain a credible objective.
“We don’t really know where we’re going but we’re on the right track. Our team is very young, with players from 2002, 2003… But we continue to grow together. This kind of meeting, with the public behind us , can only help us,” assures Simic.
“Is the top 8 our goal? I believe in any case that we can be there. If that’s the case, great. But if that’s not the case, too bad, we’ll get back to the work”, concludes the Anderlecht defender. “I think this match against such a team shows how good we can be.”
