Former Real Madrid player Gareth Bale analyzed Liverpool's 2-0 victory over the Whites in the Champions League.
The now-retired Welshman became a consultant on TNT Sports and spoke about the Reds' match with Madrid, saying Liverpool were “significantly better” than the Madrid side at Anfield.
“Liverpool were by far the better team. They dominated the game from start to finish,” said the five-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid. Gareth Bale, who justified Real's match at Anfield by arguing “that it is very difficult to compete in these circumstances with so many injuries”, wanted to reach out to Kylian Mbappé.
“On his day he's the best player in the world and it's only a matter of time before he proves it. He and Salah missed penalties, but as it was Liverpool who won, we only talk about Mbappé's”, declared the Welshman after the bad match of the Frenchman, who missed his attempt from eleven meters which could have allowed Real to return to 1-1.
Bale, referring to the work of Carlos Ancelotti, felt that “a lot of things are not working at the moment” at Real Madrid. “Real Madrid are going through a complicated period, but we know that they always find a way to overcome it,” warned Bale, however.
McManaman: “The Spanish press will be ruthless with Mbappé”
For his part, Steve McManaman, Real Madrid player from 1999 to 2003, declared on the same stage that the Spanish press was not going to spare the French striker.
“They needed him, without Vinicius, without other players, Madrid needed him, they needed him to do something, and he was lethargic. It was his moment. Mbappé had to win today 'today and he didn't do it. Madrid are going through a bad period and their stars are not doing well.
Steve McManaman then told Bale: “The Spanish press, you know it well, Gareth, they are going to be ruthless with Kylian Mbappé”. Finally, the 52-year-old ex-footballer believes that “Real Madrid will eventually pass, but they are not playing very well, they have a lot of injuries and they are not really confident.”
