During the night of Saturday November 16 to Sunday November 17, a hostage-taking attempt took place at the Les Marronniers Regional Psychiatric Center in Tournai. “An inmate asked for an aspirin, claiming he had a headache. His behavior seemed suspicious to him, so the nurse on duty called colleagues for backup. Once in the room, the patient took out a bladed weapon and threatened the officers. An altercation occurred, with an attempted hostage taking. The nurse managed as best she could to tear herself away from the arms of the patient who was threatening her with death and to barricade herself after an agonizing wait. him seemed interminable, she was released by the police. During the altercation, an officer was injured. The patient was transferred to another establishment.details the CSC in a press release.

Following this incident, the management of the establishment met with the unions this Monday, November 25. According to the CSC, security deficiencies were identified and measures were planned, but “no agenda was provided”deplores the Christian union.

The CSC also denounces “necessary but late actions” because management would have been informed of these shortcomings. The union therefore decided to file a notice of actions until December 31. The CSC thus joins that filed by the Free Union of Civil Servants.

“We are asking, in addition to the effective carrying out of security work, an in-depth study on the failures of the hierarchical line and the weaknesses of the intervention procedures. We also ask that management take all necessary measures to restore trust between the agents and the hierarchy of the nursing service, very aggressive in some of his remarks”concludes the CSC.
