This is one of the major projects for 2025. In a few months, the Department of Pyrénées-Orientales will begin work on the RD 914as revealed the Independent. This road located at south of Perpignan, which serves as a ring road, connects the Porte d'Espagne to the Méga Castillet, allowing a bypass of the city. But the latter is always very congested during peak hours.

A 46 million euro project

And for good reason, in its current configuration, the road is 2×1 lane. With this project estimated at 46 million euros including tax (the sum is financed by the Departmental Council, Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole and the City), the Department will transform this axis into 2×2 lanes. The objective is clear: to relieve congestion in the south of Perpignan.

Contacted by News Perpignanthe Departmental Council confirms that the work should start at the end of 2025. The operations are expected to last four yearsor until 2029at least.

It must be said that the project promises to be colossal. In addition to widening the lanes between the large Auchan roundabout and the Mas Rouma crossroads, the project provides for the removal of three roundabouts.

Three roundabouts will disappear

The Serrat d'En Vaquer (Cours Maintenon sector) and Mas Rous (near the new Decathlon and Lidl) roundabouts will disappear. They will be transformed into traffic light intersection. The Tecnosud roundabout will also be removed. “It will be replaced by access ramps », Announces the Department.

Good news for cyclists: two new trackswill be created. The first will see the light of day at the former Decathlon (the building will also accommodate two new businesses), the second will be in Tecnosud. “They will connect to the existing or planned network,” specifies the community.

The south of Perpignan soon to be transformed

In a few years, the entire south of Perpignan will be remodeled. In addition to this project on the D914, the Department is also making progress on the doubling of the D900 between Auchan and Pollestres.

Here again, the 2×1 track will pass into 2×2 lanes at the end of the construction site. This new configuration will make it possible to limit traffic jams, in a sector which should experience a notable demographic increase in the coming years (in particular with the creation of the ZAC Olympéoin Pollestres).

To relieve congestion and give the possibility of limiting car use to local residents between Pollestres and Perpignan, a “gentle way» (only pedestrians, farmers in the sector with their machines and other soft mobility such as cycling will be able to travel there) will be put in place along this renovated RD900.

As we explained to you in February 2023, this project could start in 2025, if all administrative procedures are completed on time. At the time, the Department expected 18 months of work.
