Princess Anne was due to travel to Canada for a military commemoration ceremony. Unable to travel since her horse riding accident, she shared a few words.

Princess Anne is the one who makes the most outings each year on behalf of the British Crown. But following her horse riding accident on June 23 at her Gatcombe Park estate and subsequent hospitalization, the sister of King Charles III must observe a period of rest and renounce her public activities.

On Monday, July 1, Princess Anne was scheduled to travel to Canada to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Newfoundland National War Memorial in St. John’s, Newfoundland. In her absence, the Governor General of Canada gave a speech, shared on his official website, during which he conveyed a message from the Princess.

“It is with deep regret that I am unable to be with you today as you commemorate the courageous efforts and sacrifices of the members of the Newfoundland Regiment who fought on the first day of the Somme,” said Princess Anne. “I remember well joining you in 2016 for the 99th commemoration of the Battle of Beaumont Hamel,” she continued. “I am deeply saddened that I will not be able to join you again, and I send you my best wishes on this special day of remembrance.”

Five days of hospitalization

Princess Anne was involved in a horse riding accident while out walking at home. She was reportedly hit in the head by a horse’s head or foot. The accident reportedly caused Queen Elizabeth II’s only daughter to suffer from memory loss and she reportedly does not remember exactly what happened.

She was immediately admitted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with concussion and “minor injuries”. The Palace said Princess Anne was expected to “make a full and speedy recovery” but was staying in hospital “as a precautionary measure”. Five days later, she left hospital and returned home.
