Selected among the 5 finalists for the title of African Player of the Year, more commonly known as the African Ballon d'Or, Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi revealed his ambitions.
There were 10, there are now only 5. On Monday, the African Football Confederation (CAF) revealed the list of 5 finalists for the title of African Player of the Yearwhich will be awarded on December 16 in Marrakech, Morocco, during the CAF Awards ceremony.
Present in this final selection alongside the Guinean serial scorer Serhou Guirassy, of 14th in the last Ballon d'Or, the Nigerian Ademola Lookmanthe Ivorian African champion Simon Adingra and the nominee for the Yachine Prize, the South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, can Achraf Hakimi dream of a coronation at home?
Questioned by the media Brut regarding his nomination, the bronze medalist at the Paris Olympic Games first wanted to express his pride in being part of a very restricted circle.
“Well, it's a source of pride and satisfaction, especially to know that the work I've been doing for a long time will be rewarded by this nomination. It's true that it's an important trophy on an individual level, but I'm happy to be here“, underlined the right side of the Paris Saint-Germain.
Then invited to deliver his ambitions, the Lion of the Atlas announced the color:
“I hope I can win it, but if not, I'm happy to be here, and it makes me want to keep working.“
With the course at the Olympics, the semi-final of the Champions League with PSG and his recent performances in the selection, the Parisian has several arguments in his favor. However, it promises to be difficult to fight with Guirassy and Lookman, the two big favorites. The premature elimination of Morocco at CAN 2023, due in particular to its penalty failure against South Africa in the round of 16, also risks working against it.
