After the departure of the learners from the BTP CFA (training center for apprentices in construction/building and public works) from Chaumont, what will become of the former national gendarmerie? The trend is towards sales. A national operator is approaching.
We announced it in the columns of the daily Jhm of Wednesday May 29, 2024. The BTP CFA of Chaumont will temporarily move, in February 2025, to the former Bergeret gendarmerie barracks. And this, while waiting for the construction of their new site.
Last September, around twenty learners carried out an educational renovation exercise there. The question that Chaumontais residents have the right to ask themselves is the following: what will become of this site after the departure of the BTP CFA learners? Owner of the premises, the State, through the Public Finance Department, coldly made it known that it did not wish to answer questions from the daily Jhm nor provide information on the property composition of the former national gendarmerie. .
A sales trend
The City of Chaumont was more vocal. When contacted, the deputy mayor in charge of town planning, Pierre Etienne, was kind enough to provide the elements of response that the municipality has in its possession. Today, the trend is more towards selling the site. “The buildings and land are still state property, with ongoing discussions with various interested buyers on certain parts,” indicates the local elected official. The City participates in the discussions. “We communicate with them to ensure consistency in the overall layout according to everyone's projects. »
It must be said that the location of the land is strategic. If there is one place popular with entrepreneurs in Chaumont, it is Avenue de la République, one of the city's major axes. “We are often contacted by national brands from diverse and varied sectors of activity, ranging from interior furniture to food. Unfortunately, we cannot satisfy their requests, because they are looking for large plots. However, along this road, there is a shortage of them,” said Pierre Etienne.
A plot of land with a large surface area that becomes available in this avenue does not happen every four mornings. As soon as this happens, national brands become interested. “There is always the interest of a national operator who wants to work with a concept comprising a few food units which wants to welcome existing merchants in town to move and/or develop,” concludes the deputy mayor.
