Chaumont VB 52 Haute-Marne wants to forget its first setbacks in the Champions League, by returning to victory against Paris Volleyball which it welcomes in its Palestra, this Saturday, November 23 (8 p.m.). A mission within the ropes of the Cévebistes, on condition of quickly returning to “championship” mode.
The first two pages of the “Champions League” chapter are therefore turned. And if the story started badly for Chaumont VB 52 Haute-Marne, with two defeats (against Lüneburg 3-2 and Jastrzebski 0-3), the prefectural club does not despair of experiencing a “happy ending”. ” at the end of the story of this group stage. In the meantime, the Cévebistes must quickly plan again for the games of the Marmara Spikeligue, with an upcoming duel against Paris volleyball, this Saturday, November 23.
An important confrontation for Silvano Prandi's men who, with a victory, would now “tickle” the heights of the ranking, in the company of most of the current “tenors”. As after the setback suffered in Germany ten days ago, the questions remain essentially the same as when the group followed, in the days which followed, with the trip to Narbonne, which they finally negotiated perfectly (victory in three sets).
Will Joseph Worsley and his teammates be able to do it again with the same determination on this tenth day? A priori, the conditions are even better than during the trip to Aude, since this time, the Chaumontais will play two consecutive matches, without the fatigue of traveling. With this new opposition to Palestra, the Haut-Marnais were able to work calmly and seriously on the approach to the match against Paris.
Except that, this time, they should be missing an important part of their collective, since the participation of the German international, the central Lukas Maase, injured in the back, remains very uncertain for this meeting (read the buzz of the week).
Not to be taken lightly
With Josef Polak, the group has another international, Czech this time, who, certainly, has not yet necessarily found all his bearings with his new collective, but who had nevertheless shown good things during the preparation matches before -season, and who has the qualities to help his teammates glean the desired points.
The general manager of CVB 52, Jiri Cerha, showed, before the match against Jastrzebski, his certainty about the benefits of playing in a competition at the level of the Champions League in the progress of his players. The latter will therefore have the opportunity to demonstrate it this weekend, against a Parisian team which, if it has not yet obtained the expected results, is the only one, until now, to have dominated the Tourquennois leader in three sets.
Proof if any were needed that this team has the potential to see higher in the rankings (current 10e). CVB 52 has been warned, having also had a glimpse of it in a preparation match (two sets everywhere), on September 20.

Nikola Matijasevic (Paris): “take our chance!” »
With two victories on the clock, Paris has stagnated since the start of the season in the second half of the table. A position which is not exactly what the leaders and staff wanted when building the new collective, but the former Cévebiste coach, today on the Ile-de-France bench, Nikola Matijasevic, wants to remain calm.
jhmquotidien: How are you experiencing this start of the season?
Nikola Matijasevic (entraîneur de Paris) : “I am quite mixed about this first assessment. The results are not good, of course, but in terms of the game, I am not dissatisfied with the performance of my team. We have experienced defeats that are difficult to digest, the scenarios of which are repeated tirelessly. We have a lot of trouble finishing sets and are often trapped by our own mistakes. »
jhmquotidien: What are the solutions to reach this additional level which would allow you to see higher in the ranking of this championship?
N. M. : “My team is very young. We need to accumulate experience, both collectively and individually. We are progressing over the weeks and today we need to win sets to get that little click. In important moments, we lose lucidity and determination, while we are capable of shaking up the best. We proved it by dominating Tourcoing in three sets, which no one else has managed to do yet this season. The potential is there, I'm sure. »
jhmquotidien: Can Paris repeat this same feat in Chaumont?
N. M. : “In any case, we come to try to make it happen! In Tourcoing, we had two injured (Conde and Dérouillon)while this time we arrive in full. We will therefore have to approach this meeting as we did in the North. But quite honestly, Chaumont is a step above us. They are superior to us in the ranking, in the quality of play and individually. But that won't stop us from playing with motivation and being ready to seize our chance, if the opportunity arises. Every set taken will be important. »
jhmquotidien: What do you think of this Chaumont team version 2024/2025?
N. M. : “It is a very competitive team, which, moreover, is competing in the European Cup, thus allowing its promising young players to develop even more quickly. We see this with Pierre Toledo in particular, who is a player that I know well and whom I really appreciate having trained him at Rennes. It seems to have taken on additional stature this year. With a passer of the class of Joseph Worsley, the CVB 52 has the assets to hurt any opponent, even if I learned that our former Paris central, Lukas Maase, could be absent this Saturday. »
jmquotidien: Do you still appreciate the French championship?
N. M. : “Its homogeneity, which increases every year, gives this competition incredible charm. It's no surprise that it attracts a number of promising up-and-coming players. The Marmara Spikeleague remains a unique competition in Europe. »

Lukas Maase very uncertain
On the bench of Chaumont VB 52 Haute-Marne, Wednesday, during the Champions League match against the Poles of Jastrzebski (0-3 defeat), Lukas Maase could once again skip the meeting this Saturday, November 23, in Palestra, facing Paris. Experiencing pain in his upper back, the German international underwent several medical examinations, including an MRI, which did not detect anything very serious. But the cevébist staff could avoid taking the slightest risk, in order to find their center for the upcoming deadlines and in particular the rest of the Champions League, from December 4 in Sofia (Bulgaria).
