The French are going to the polls in droves for the first round of early legislative elections this Sunday, June 30. However, they will probably have to wait longer than usual for the final results.

A longer wait than usual? This Sunday, June 30, the French are invited to vote in the first round of early legislative elections. If the last polling stations close at 8 p.m., the results could be slow to be announced.

The dissolution of the National Assembly announced by Emmanuel Macron on the evening of the European elections on June 9th has considerably disrupted the French electoral calendar. It is this upheaval that will be one of the causes of a prolonged wait for the results of this first round.

More than two million proxies

Indeed, the very short time frame for organizing a national election of great importance considerably complicated the formation of polling stations. There will therefore be fewer volunteer assessors and voters in some of them who will be able to count the ballots, thereby slowing down the final count.

A number of available people which is also mitigated by the number of absentees at the poll. Thursday June 27, three days before the first round, 2 million proxies had already been registered by the State.

In addition to this lack of human resources, the large turnout also risks making the counting stage and the publication of the final results longer. At 5 p.m., the Ministry of the Interior reported a participation rate of 59.39%, almost 20 points more than in 2022 (39.42%).
