Saturday November 23, a “loss of containment” was detected around 10:50 p.m. on a crude oil line at the Donges refinery. The leak took place on jetty 6. The authorities and platform teams quickly intervened. They have carried out the isolation of the defective pipe and the confinement of the area concerned. TotalEnergies specifies that continuous monitoring has been put in place on the site. In the meantime, no injuries have been reported. TotalEnergies adds that the company will provide news of the evolution of the situation, “The Donges refinery regrets the inconvenience caused and is doing everything possible to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.”
The prefecture takes stock of the situation
At this stage, this Sunday morning, work is still being carried out to drain the defective pipe via water injection. Since 3:45 a.m., no more crude oil flows into the Loire. A liquid collection device was installed at the leak. According to the first analyzes carried out, iridescent waters (effect of oil on water having a rainbow color) should “disperse naturally and return, by the action of the wind, to the banks” explains the prefecture. New analyzes will be carried out this Sunday to clarify the situation.
In its measurements carried out in the commune of Donges, TotalEnergies specifies that it has not noted the presence of volatile organic compounds linked to this oil leak.
