A spectacular heavy goods vehicle accident occurred this Saturday around 5 p.m. on the RN10 near La Couronne, near Angoulême. For a reason that remains to be determined and on a wet road following the storms, the driver, a 56-year-old Romanian, lost control of the truck which overturned on the right lane and smashed into the side safety slide in the Bordeaux-Paris direction.

A large intervention force was deployed to rescue the two victims and secure the scene of the very busy accident on this first weekend of departure on holiday. The Romanian driver had to be freed from his cabin and transported as an absolute emergency to the Angoulême hospital. The 45-year-old woman on board the heavy goods vehicle was taken care of as a relative emergency.

Another consequence of this accident, under the violence of the impact, the truck’s tank ruptured and diesel threatened to spill below the roadway into the La Boëme river, a tributary of the Charente river. A team from SDIS 16 specializing in chemical risks was mobilized to set up a dam and prevent any pollution. Traffic was still disrupted this Saturday early in the evening in the Bordeaux-Paris direction. The Angoulême company gendarmes will have to establish the exact circumstances of this accident.
