The Grenoble public prosecutor Eric Vaillant held a press conference this Friday at the courthouse to give the circumstances of the arrest of Abdoul Diallo, suspected of having killed municipal agent Lilian Dejean on September 8 in front of the town hall.
Arrested in northern Portugal
Abdoul Diallo, 25, was arrested in Povoa de Lanhoso, 70 kilometers north of Porto around 5 p.m. Thursday November 21. It is now proven that it is indeed Abdoul Diallo after verifications. He is the main suspect in the murder of Lilian Dejean, his identity card was found in the accident vehicle in front of Grenoble town hall. French investigators from Lyon and Grenoble worked in daily contact with the Portuguese authorities. They had known for some time that he was in this country.
He will be handed over to French justice
Abdoul Diallo is currently detained in Portugal. It will be handed over to the French authorities soon. “In five to six weeks, he could be in France” believes prosecutor Eric Vaillant. More than 40 investigators have worked on the case for more than two months. “It’s a time that may seem long but is quite a record in this type of case. I am proud to lead the DCOS 38 investigators. They have accomplished a remarkable job,” said the head of the police in Isère Jérôme Chappa.
A very heavy criminal record
Abdoul Diallo is very unfavorably known to the police. He counts 19 convictions on his criminal recordnotably for violence and drug trafficking. In total, he has spent six years in prison over the past 10 years. He was first incarcerated at the age of 15.
