When Xavier and Caroline Perromatowners of the Château de Cérons in Gironde, embark on the presentation of their project around their wine property, it emerges a passiona desire to always move forward and a investment flawless.
Their latest creationan audio-guided tour, accompanied by a visual and sound experience in a old cellar barrels, has just been rewarded with a gold medal in a competition rewarding original proposals within wine properties. A real spotlight on South Gironde.
The project of a lifetime
Their building built at the beginning of the 18th century is already an original setting, but that does not satisfy the Perromat couple. You just have to listen to them talk about their property and walk around it alongside them to understand that this is the project of a lifetime.
Caroline Perromat is convinced of the importance ofwine tourism as a pillar of the company and a showcase for the southern Gironde sector. Xavier Perromat believes with all his strength in viticulture respecting the biodiversity and local species as well as polyculture.
And it is this perfect blend that is at the heart of the 'Voyage de Cérons' project for which they won the Best Of Wine Tourism gold medal.
What is the Best of Wine Tourism competition?
The Best Of Wine Tourism competition rewards each year the most original and innovative wine properties and service providers in terms of welcoming visitors. This year, the Château de Cérons was awarded a Gold Best of in the 'Discovery and Innovation' category.
A reward for the Château de Cérons and all of South Gironde
“It’s the reward for a vision, but it also shows that we can attract the public to an area like South-Gironde by innovating,” argues Caroline Perromat.
We are happy to see that our strategy and our work over the past 12 years are paying off.
However, she wants to make it clear that she does not want to put the Château de Cérons ahead of the others: “We don't want to say 'we are the best'. But it's nice to see that we can talk about our wine region in these times of crisis. We hope it will be beneficial for everyone.”
An immersive journey through the vineyard
The medal came to reward their 'Voyage de Cérons' which includes a one and a half kilometer walk through their property, on the edge of the Garonne and even in the historic center of Cérons, with a passage into thevillage church.
It’s good because it brought a little life back to the town too. There is a group of locals – including us – who take turns opening and closing the church so that tourists can enjoy it.
During this journey, the visitor passes through 13 points during which the history of the property is explained to him, certain anecdotes and historical details on wine and its culture, the land of Cérons (that of the Quaternary and Tertiary), the Garonne… He also goes through a old quarry of stone arranged in biodiversity sink.
We planted 750 trees and shrubs of Aquitaine species and 70 fruit trees of old species. We worked with the Bordeaux conservatory and in our turn, we act as a conservatory.
The winemaker also put polyculture plots within this well of biodiversity: “This year, we had fields of lupins and sunflowers. Next year, we will return to cereals. »
A festival of lights at the Château de Cérons from December 6 to 8, 2024
The Château de Cérons is organizing open days on December 6, 7 and 8, 2024, in the form of a festival of lights. On occasion, artists will come to illuminate rooms of the castle with their creations, private sales as well as tastings will be offered and a tea room will allow a gourmet break.
Gabriel, a sensory experience
This golden best of also rewards the highlight of the show designed by the Perromat couple: a sound and light experience of 15 minutes in the old barrel cellar.
We wanted to make it a sort of allegory of wine and water.
This journey takes the viewer on the trail of a drop of water leaving the Pyrenees to land in a glass of wine of Cerons. She talks with Gabriel, a child who has been watching over the castle for decades. Three video projections simultaneous on the walls and barrels of the cellar, plunged in darkness, totally immerse the visitor in this experience.
A drop of gold which punctuates an innovative journey into wine culture south-Girondine.
