It was one of those familiar voices that we had all heard before. Dubbing actor William Pinville, who worked for nearly 25 years in “Questions for a Champion” on France 3, died this Tuesday, November 19, the TV Conseil agency, in charge of communications, confirmed this Thursday to Le Parisien. of the cult game.
He was the one who presented the candidates at the start of each show, as well as the prizes for the lucky winners. It was him that you always heard talking about this “magnificent encyclopedia” which often went to the winners.
Between 1992 and 2016, he recorded a series of recordings alongside Julien Lepers, a job which represented “between 25 and 50%” of his working time, William Pinville explained to us in an interview given in 2011. At the same time, he lent his voices for different advertisements. “One day, the caretaker of my building told me that she had said to her husband: I'm sure that Mr. Pinville, the tenant, is the voice of Questions for a champion. Her husband didn't believe her. So, she asked me,” he told us in 2011.
Accustomed to the shadows, he had never appeared on set until that day in 2015 when he replaced the historic host for a few minutes on the occasion of April 1st.
He stopped his collaboration with “Questions for a Champion” in 2016, when Julien Lepers was fired by France Télévisions and replaced by Samuel Etienne.
