Dominique Lain honored with a Marianne d’Or
On Saturday November 16, 2024, Dominique Lain, mayor of Luc-en-Provence and president of SDIS 83 (Departmental Fire and Rescue Service of Var), received the prestigious Marianne d'Or from Alain Trampoglieri, secretary general competition. The ceremony was held in the Jean-Louis Dieux room. This prize distinguishes elected officials for their exemplary commitment and their service rendered to the municipality and its inhabitants. Mr. Lain was praised for his decisive role during the Gonfaron fire in 2021, as president of SDIS 83. This gesture highlights the efficiency and dedication of local elected officials in the face of major crises. Dominique Lain dedicates this award above all to local actors, including the CCFF, the gendarmerie and the firefighters, who joined him on stage during the presentation of the statue.
The Gonfaron fire: exemplary management
On August 16, 2021, a devastating forest fire broke out in Gonfaron, ravaging more than 7,000 hectares and costing the lives of two people. Under the direction of Dominique Lain, SDIS 83 mobilized hundreds of firefighters, air assets and local resources to contain the fire using a counter-fire, protect the population and limit losses. The mayor distinguished himself by his flawless coordination and management, despite extreme conditions, and a fire at peak speed of 7km/h. For him, it was not “I”, but “we”, who carried out this operation and obtained this Golden Marianne. The feedback carried out by the authorities has made it possible to draw important lessons to improve the prevention of forest fires, particularly in the Massif des Maures, regularly exposed to these risks.
A prize that highlights the commitment of elected officials
Alain Trampoglieri, a key figure in the Marianne d'Or, underlined during the ceremony the importance of rewarding remarkable local initiatives. This competition, founded in 1984, promotes innovative and humanist actions by communities. Dominique Lain thus joins the restricted circle of elected officials whose commitment exceeds expectations.
