Six departments are placed on yellow wave-submersion vigilance for the day of Thursday, November 21. It is advisable to avoid the coastline.
It will be wiser to move away from the southern coasts of the Atlantic coast this Thursday, November 21. Météo-France has in fact placed six departments on yellow wave-submersion vigilance for this day.
These are Charente-Maritime, Gironde, Landes, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Alpes-Maritimes and Corse-du-Sud.
Météo-France reminds that submersions “especially affect low-lying areas close to the coast”.
Unlike other dangerous weather phenomena, such as strong wind, the wave-flooding phenomenon is very localized.
The floods caused can, however, “reach a water height of several meters and invade the coastline several kilometers inland”.
Thursday will also be very windy, with 25 departments on orange alert for violent winds.
France will be crossed by the Caetano depression, which should circulate from Brittany towards northern Italy and cause an early winter episode with snow all the way to the plains.
