A man who was door-to-door canvassing was shot and killed this Wednesday, November 20 in Chavelot, in the Vosges.
A septuagenarian, identified as the shooter, was taken into custody for murder.
A canvassing that turns into tragedy. Weapons found at home
The victim was canvassing in several houses on the same street in the city center of this small town of 1,300 inhabitants, explained prosecutor Frédéric Nahon, confirming information from the daily Vosges Morning (new window). At the end of the morning, he presented himself in front of a house inhabited by two brothers, in their seventies. One of them, the youngest, fatally shot him while shooting him.
The investigation into the murder was entrusted to the Remiremont research brigade, south of Epinal. According to Vosges Morningthe victim would have gone to this address several times to canvass in recent days. Several hunting weapons were also found at the suspect’s home, according to the newspaper.
