A few days before the first round of the legislative elections, Clémence, 26, learned that her companion was planning to vote for the National Rally. Between frustration and spite, the young woman affirms that the man with whom she recently entered into a civil partnership was “influenced” by the promises of the far-right party and social networks. This is the second episode of our “Intimate Politics” series which explores the way in which the convictions of some people shake up their relationships with others.
Distance, adultery, weariness… In ten years of relationship, Clémence* has had time to think about the different reasons that could put an end to her relationship. On the other hand, she would never have imagined that this separation would be likely to be based on a political motive. “It’s a debate that has never really taken hold in our lives”admits the 26-year-old Normandy girl.
“We met when we were 16 and at that age, the question doesn’t arise. I voted for the first time in the 2019 European elections and it’s the first time we started talking politics together, she remembers. Now, we’ve finished studying, we both have jobs and it’s becoming a real subject. » Her blue eyes lost in space, a hand trapped under her chin, Clémence adds: “I wouldn’t have thought that the political party chosen by the person in front of me would be a problem in our relationship.”
