A traffic accident occurred on Monday in Escalquens, south-east of Toulouse. A motorcyclist was killed. A driver involved in this tragedy was indicted and imprisoned.

The frontal impact occurred in a straight line, on the departmental road which crosses Escalquens to the south-east of Toulouse. A 55-year-old motorcyclist, who was returning home after his day of work, was hit by a car which left its path in the middle of the afternoon on Monday June 24. Despite the intervention of the emergency services, firefighters and medical team from Smur 31, this man could not be saved.

Emergency services treated two other victims, slightly injured in this pileup which involved three cars and a motorcycle. The driver of the car, who suddenly lost control of his vehicle and left to the left, was taken into custody by the Villefranche-de-Lauragais company gendarmes.

Six bikers killed since January

The 51-year-old driver, whose criminal record already shows traces of various offences, was brought before the public prosecutor at the Toulouse courthouse on Wednesday. The public prosecutor has opened a judicial investigation into “manslaughter and aggravated involuntary injuries”.

Analyzes showed that this driver was driving under the effects of alcohol during the accident. Its rate was measured at more than 0.9 g, a criminal rate. “The results of the analyzes on possible consumption of narcotics are not yet known,” specifies the Toulouse public prosecutor’s office.

Indicted, this driver was placed under arrest warrant, as requested by the prosecution, by the judge of freedoms and detention. He was therefore incarcerated on Wednesday evening. In addition to his alcohol consumption, his criminal record marked by other traffic offenses did not speak in his favor.

Since the start of the year, at least twenty-three people have died on the roads of Haute-Garonne, a stable figure like that of accidents. Six motorcyclists, two drivers of 50 cc two-wheelers and two cyclists belong to this blacklist.
