Djibril Sonko, new mayor of Ziguinchor, was chosen by consensus as the sole candidate of the Pastef party to succeed Ousmane Sonko, appointed Prime Minister at the beginning of April 2024. His academic and professional career was decisive in this decision.
As our colleagues from Emedia point out, Originally from Ziguinchor, Djibril Sonko studied at CEM Tété Diédhiou, Djignabo high school and Cheikh Anta Diop university. He obtained a DEA in international economics at the Faculty of Economics and Management (FASEG). His 15 years of experience as a Treasury inspector gives him a solid understanding of financial and administrative issues.
in addition to his new functions as mayor, Djibril Sonko is a founding member of the Pastef party and departmental coordinator of Pastef Ziguinchor. He was also a teacher at UCAD and Assane Seck University in Ziguinchor, where he shared his knowledge on public markets and the economy.
On the associative level, Djibril Sonko has been active in various organizations. He participated in the Family Life Education (EVF) club of the Djignabo high school, in AIESEC (International Association of Economics Students) and in the FASEG/UCAD student association. He was also responsible for demands within the single union of Treasury workers.
With this new role, Djibril Sonko brings a wealth of academic and professional experience, as well as a deep commitment to local and national issues, to Ziguinchor town hall.
