The winning streak at home for Caron Industries in Montmagny ended Sunday afternoon and Martin Guérette’s squad continues to go down in the general rankings. Long-time rivals Lafontaine de Bellechasse won 6-3 in front of 208 Magnymont spectators.
The first period was not easy for Caron Industrie. The Magnymontois had difficulty finding themselves on the ice, leaving room for disjointed games. ” A lot. Many, many. Compared to before. We had some great games. The last one against Bellechasse was the best part of the year in collective play. We scored on seven goals, five of which were tic-tac-toes. All worked. Which we are not currently capable of reproducing,” underlined Caron Industries assistant coach, Éric Bourget. The Yellows and Greens were still able to limit the damage in the first period by allowing only one goal on the 15 shots taken towards Gabriel Tremblay’s cage.
A difficult second third
The Bellechassois took advantage of Caron’s setbacks with two goals to open the scoring in the second period. The locals, however, tried to get back into the game by playing physical games and finding the back of the net. Xavier Paré fired a shot worthy of the major leagues to bring the score to 3-1. The pleasure was short-lived. The Magnymontois left their goaltender to his own devices by frequently leaving an opposing player in the slot and being second on the disc. Lafontaine scored two more goals to return to the locker room with a four-goal lead. “Bellechasse wanted her more than the rest of us. The Lafontaine introduced himself. It’s not that we didn’t show up, we didn’t do a good job. The game plan was not implemented. We are falling into our old habits,” said Éric Bourget.
Letting a sixth shot find the back of the net, Martin Guérette’s men regained their senses, but too late in the match. Emile Martin and Xavier Paré were left alone in the slot to bring the score to 6-3.
The Magnymontois will have to be careful in the next meetings and avoid losing valuable points in the standings. They now find themselves in the middle of the pack, in fifth position with six wins and four losses. Remember that Caron Industries started the season with five consecutive victories. “There is good parity, but we must avoid going down in the rankings. […] We have to get back to basics. Return to the application of the game plan by playing collectively. It was our strength at the start of the season. This is what we do the least at the moment,” added the assistant to Martin Guérette.
They will be able to start off on a new note this weekend at the Lefrançois-Lorrain tournament in Saint-Romuald. The Caron will face new faces on Friday, the Gouverneurs du Noroit 2 (5-6-0) as well as the Vics de Granby (3-4-1) later in the evening.
