What is the declaration of real estate?
This obligation, in force since January 2023, requires 34 million owners to declare the identity of the occupants of the housing(s) they own. This allows the tax authorities to determine in particular which households are liable for housing tax on second homes.
But last year, 600,000 households had wrongly received a notice from the tax authorities to pay this tax. Because only 82% of owners had filed a property declaration. For the remaining 18%, the file cross-checks could not be made.
“These opinions have been regularized, said the public finance department. We certainly didn’t communicate enough. » The public finance centers had been attacked by disoriented taxpayers.
Where are we this year?
At the beginning of June, the reporting rate rose to 86%. So not 100% yet. “But the campaign went much better,” indicates Nicolas Calvel, from the Solidaires public finance union. In the meantime, the tax authorities have put a booster shot in the income declaration process.
Until when can we declare?
Until June 30. To do this, you must go to impots.gouv.fr in the “Real estate” tab of your “private space”. If the taxpayer has already made his declaration last year, the process is not necessary “that in the event of a change in circumstances”, writes the tax authorities. But if this declaration has never been made, it must be fulfilled. “The lack of awareness of this obligation, notes the taxman, entails the application of a fine of €150 per premises. »
