The MRC de Montcalm announces the installation, in Saint-Alexis, of the latest work of the Chouette! Art trail in rural areas. Entitled Trustworthy, this sculpture can now be admired at Alice-Simard Park, located at 17, rue Masse. The municipal council chose this work from four proposals received during a call for projects.
Created by artist Justine Lafortune, Trustworthy was created during an artistic residency at the Atelier Mains de Fer in Saint-Jacques. This work pays tribute to the generations of agricultural workers whose labor shaped the fertile lands of Saint-Alexis. Through the strength of their hands, these pioneers transmitted a precious heritage, anchored in local heritage and still present in current community issues.
The sculpture, made of rusty steel, symbolizes the wear and wisdom of the hands which built this land. The golden yellow of the wheat blade, for its part, evokes the vitality of nature and the resilience of the community.
Justine Lafortune: a Lanaudiere artist with a passion for metal
Justine Lafortune, an artist-welder from Lanaudière, specializes in large-scale metal sculptures. Since 2018, she has drawn her inspiration from the link between individuals and their territory. His works, true visual anchors, are designed to connect spectators to their environment while celebrating the grandeur of the Living. Through his sculptures, Lafortune explores the impact of the past and the strength of the present in a dialogue between material and history.
