At the announcement of the verdict, Friday November 15, 2024 a little before 10 p.m. and after seven hours of deliberation, by Aurore Carpentier, the president of the Côtes-d’Armor Assize Court, at the Saint-Brieuc courthouse , Gaël Scoubart appeared haggard, his gaze lost in space, searching for his breath.

The 32-year-old man had just been sentenced to thirty years of criminal imprisonment for the murder of Eythan, 3 years old, in Guingamp in July 2022, the son of his partner, Lisa Duguet. The latter received five years in prison, including four years in prison.

In a year maximum

In this case, Gaël Scoubart faced life imprisonment. The attorney general had requested twenty years of imprisonment and the reclassification of the facts as intentional violence resulting in the death of a minor under the age of 15 without intention of causing it.

Immediately after his conviction, Gaël Scoubart, through his lawyers, Thomas Jourdain-Demars and Klit Delilaj, decided to appeal. He will therefore be tried a second time, before another assize court, within the jurisdiction of the Court of Appeal. This second trial must be held a maximum of one year after the first.
