The jury of the Today prize, made up of journalists, designated the winner of its 2024 edition on November 15. It is the general François Lecointre who wins with the work Between Wars (Gallimard), facing Yasmina Rez. It thus succeeds Jérôme Fourquetrecipient in 2023. The award ceremony will take place on Wednesday, November 20 at the Bourse de commerce-Pinault Collection.
In the story, François Lecointre evokes his journey as a young officer who became a man of war and recounts his military experience from Rwanda to Sarajevo via Iraq. Based on a personal story, the book addresses more general themes such as the psychological repercussions of the violence of war, brotherhood within the army or the doubts and realities faced by soldiers.
Jury of journalists
The Today Prize was created in 1962 by a group of journalists and rewards a political, philosophical or historical work shedding light on the contemporary period. Supported by François Pinault, it is endowed with 50,000 euros.
This year, the jury was composed of Christophe Barbier, Anna Cabana, Jérôme Chapuis, Christine Clerc, Alain Duhamel, Laureline Dupont, Franz-Olivier Giesbert, Sonia Mabrouk, Solenn de Royer, Alain-Gérard Slamaunder the presidency of Vincent Tremolet de Villers.
