The manager said he was “very intelligent and very clever” to blame the group and its management team for pushing him toward drugs. He also claims that Robbie Williams is making him out to be a demon.

Since then, the interpreter of Rock DJwho left the group in 1995, responded.

Robbie Williams attacked Nigel Martin-Smith in a very long open letter which he shared on Instagram.

“Let me respond to your assertions. My drug use was never your fault. My response to the twisted world around me is uniquely my own. The way I chose to self-medicate is and was something I will monitor and manage throughout my life. It's part of my constitution and I would have had the same illness if I had been a taxi driver. I got there faster because I had the financial means, while trying in vain to counter the turbulence of the matrix washing machine of pop stardom,” he writes.

Robbie Williams goes on to point out that members of boybands often struggle with the pressure of fame and turn to destructive methods to cope.

He also felt that the manager had not “excelled in managing people”.

“I remind you that the person who behaves like a “wanker” was 16 when he joined the group and 21 when he left. That's the last time I saw you. I hope I will have more finesse and understanding if one of my four children, at such a vulnerable age, behaves in the same way,” he added.

Robbie Williams has insisted on the love he feels for his former manager… but asked him not to approach him if they ever find themselves in the same room.
