This Monday, November 18, 2024, the doors of the Biolam medical analysis laboratory in Ham, located at 41 rue de Noyon, remained closed to the public. The fault of a fire which hit the first floor of the building, Saturday November 16.
People wishing to go there are invited to go, temporarily, to the Péronne or Estrées-Deniécourt sites.
The weakened building
If the flames strongly impacted the upper floor, an apartment, the large quantity of water thrown into the structure seems to have weakened the entire building and in particular the ceilings of the ground floor. Faced with this risk of collapse, the rescue, support and research unit (USAR), a team specializing in building risks, requested a ban on public access.
An order of imminent danger issued by the town hall of Ham
Following this analysis, the mayor of Ham, Eric Legrand pronounced an imminent danger order and decided the installation ofa security perimeter around the buildingby the municipality’s technical services: “Access to the security perimeter is prohibited to any unauthorized person. The security perimeter will be maintained until the work is carried out or the building is secured.”
As a reminder, a house fire occurred around 5 a.m., rue de Noyon Basse, in the rear part and above the medical laboratory. The flames severely damaged the building. Three people living there, an adult and two children, were transported to the hospital for check-ups after inhaling smoke.
50 firefighters from the East of the Somme on site
At the end of the morning, the fire was contained and firefighters cleared the building to prevent it from resuming. Firefighters from Ham, Nesle, Roye, Péronne and Amiens-Poulainville, around fifty people, took part in the operation. A large scale was particularly necessary to intervene on the first floor of the building.
The firefighters notably succeeded in preventing the flames from spreading to the neighboring building dedicated to insurance. Firefighters left the scene at midday. Note that a temporary closure of the road was put in place by the police during the intervention.
