After the Doudou, the people of Montois still have an appointment with their traditions this weekend. From Friday, the Midsummer bonfire festivities will begin. It is on a brand new Place Nervienne that activities will be centralized. It will all start this Friday with a big citizens’ banquet during which children’s activities and concerts will be on offer. The next day, you will no longer have to wait until the early evening to enjoy activities. From the morning, the site will indeed be open to the public. Walks will also be organized, enough to get your legs moving before the highlight of the show, scheduled for the evening.

The Saint-Jean Fireworks will once again bring life to downtown Mons this weekend. A mixture of traditions and novelties will allow the people of Mont to come together. “The Friday program will remain the same as in other years. We will therefore organize a large banquet open to all which serves as a great aperitif between citizens. Children will be able to enjoy a play area specially designed for them while local artists will provide the musical aspect of the day”, confides Emmanuelle Bury, member of the organization.

The next day, the new features will be put in place. It will indeed be possible to enjoy the activities of Place Nervienne from the morning. “Place Nervienne is occupied by our stands throughout the day. We therefore said to ourselves that it was a shame not to give citizens access to it in the morning. In particular, we will offer two walking routes of 5 and 10 km. It will be an opportunity to organize something different before a return to traditions on Saturday evening. They will be open to all and, above all, accessible to all”, continues Emmanuelle Bury.

Departure from… Saint-Waudru

A small change will still occur at the level of the torchlight procession which will depart from the Sainte-Waudru square. The reason ? The screens installed as part of the Euro football tournament do not allow departure from the Grand-Place in Mons. Once arriving at Place Nervienne, citizens will be able to light the pyre but also enjoy a pyrotechnic show organized by Pyronix.

Attendance will obviously depend on the weather. We still hope that by opening our doors on Saturday morning, citizens will be able to get up and running more quickly and thus come in greater numbers to celebrate the event. This opening in the morning will, in any case, be repeated every year. At the level of the steps, we will advise based on this first edition”, concludes Emmanuelle Bury.
