After enlisting Roberto De Zerbi as coach, the Marseille leaders seem determined to offer a quality squad to their new technician. If the future of Pau Lopez could be written far from Marseille as indicated by RMC Sport, Pablo Longoria and the Marseille board would have targeted Illan Meslier.
Foot Mercato and Provence agree that the 24-year-old French goalkeeper is on Marseille’s radar. Meslier’s profile is appealing because it fits the style of play advocated by Roberto De Zerbi, who relies on his goalkeeper as a good first receiver. The former French U21 international’s kicking ability is therefore a major asset.
The expensive Samba track
Marseille’s leaders are also said to have made inquiries about bringing back Brice Samba. The Lens goalkeeper joined Marseille’s ranks after training at Le Havre in 2013, but the path is expensive. Without a European Cup this season, Marseille will have to be careful with finances.
Especially since the Marseille leaders are starting this summer window strong. Brassier, Koné and Greenwood are names that keep coming back even if nothing has been decided yet. Illan Meslier would not be against settling down in the south of France and returning to a land already trodden by one of his former coaches, Marcelo Bielsa.
