Jacques Rançon confessed to the murder after 47 hours in police custody

Sunday June 23, behavioral analyst from the gendarmerie Marie-Laure Brunel-Dupin was a guest on Sept à Huit on TF1. Faced with Audrey Crespo-Mara, she mentioned the personality of many serial killers and in particular Jacques Rançon. “In the 47th hour of police custody, he began to give information that only the author could know” she remembered about the Isabelle Mesnage affair.

Before succeeding in obtaining her confession, however, Marie-Laure Brunel-Dupin had to understand the way it works. “What was important for him was not to shout at him, ever, even when he was quite horrifying about certain answers or certain attitudes. You had to always remain calm and treat him respectfully.” she explained.

The serial killer decided to retract his confession

According to the behavioral analyst, the fact of lose one’s means facing the silence of the serial killer was dangerous. Indeed, Jacques Rançon could easily rob himself. “Otherwise, it closed it and once it was closed, it was no longer possible to recover” assured Marie-Laure Brunel-Dupin.

The passage in Sept à Huit is not the first confidence of the gendarmerie profiler. Last March, she already spoke in L’Heure du crime on RTL. This time, she had revealed about confession of the murderer by Isabelle Mesnage: “What is special is that behind it, it always retracts. He always did that. Once he steps back from his confession, he regrets it”. The details given on the murder of the young woman finally made it possible to formally identify it and close the investigation after decades of mystery.
