The website of this Bruges auction house is fun to browse because even before the catalog is displayed, you are asked to choose the lots by period, as this is a sale specializing in China and the Far East, in ‘occurrence. At Rops, fortunately, we offer the same kind of sorting, by specialty. If you’re looking for something specific, it saves a lot of time, of course.

The textile organizations of Élodie Antoine

In this preselection, you are entitled to a sorting of the most eagerly awaited lots and this is where a very nice seated Buddha in gilded bronze comes out, 59.5 cm high and placed on a lotus flower, as a symbol. throne. The young man who looks like an active North Korean potentate, minus the hairstyle, displays a smile equal to that of our contemporary when he launches a rocket into the China Sea. For this lot from the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), coming from a Belgian collection, a range of €20,000 to €40,000 is announced. For the same price, you can compete for a patinated bronze incense burner which bears, in addition to a swastika, the stamp of the fifth emperor of the Ming dynasty, namely Xuande, who reigned from 1425 to 1435.

Casteldurante

We will then point out a food display, for sacrificial use, carried by four feet, of a model called Fang ding, and dating from the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046 to 771 BC). The lot, in bronze, is estimated between €15,000 and €20,000. It comes from a private collection and last appeared at Dolls, in London, in 1971. There are still several lots which are not from these distant Eastern countries but which come from Europe. What emerges is a large majolica dish, made in a workshop in Casteldurante around 1550. The center of this object, very overloaded with decoration, is animated by a scene of Diana and Actaeon. The lot comes from the collection of Edmond de Rothschild (1926-1997), who purchased Château Clarke in 1973 and whose mother, Noémie Halphen, was the founder of the Megève resort. Edmond died at the Château de Prégny, in Switzerland; not to be confused with the Château du Reposoir where Léopold III and his family resided from October 1945 to July 1950. The diameter of this piece is 25.7 cm. It is valued between €2,500 and €5,000. The two days of sales will include 999 lots.
