The Indre department has experienced heavy rains in recent days. Consequence: the Indre river burst its banks during the night of Saturday June 22 to Sunday June 23, 2024. A campsite located nearby had to be evacuated in the middle of the night, reports The New Republic .

“The water rose until 3:30 a.m.…”

“I was attentive because I had been warned that the flood could be severe. I was also told that the water would rise until midnight and that it would stop then. But in fact, it went up until 3:30 a.m.…” explained to our colleagues the manager of the Le Rochat Belle Isle campsite, in Châteauroux.

The people staying in the mobile homes had to be woken up. While some were able to be relocated on site, others had to leave the premises in the middle of the night.

Four floods since the start of the year

In total, around fifty people were evacuated, underlines France 3 Centre-Val de Loire . Since the start of the year, the campsite has already been flooded three times. “We have no damage but a lot of hassle”, admitted the manager on local television. Especially since the establishment was full that weekend.

Thanks to the sun, the decline happened quickly. Temporarily closed to restore everything, the campsite reopened this Monday, June 24, the establishment indicated on its Facebook page. According to Météo France, Indre is still placed on yellow flood alert this Monday.
