sharp increase in diesel and gasoline in June

Fuel prices are rising sharply again at the end of June. After a long period of decreasing, prices have increased significantly, particularly between this Friday, June 21 and this Monday, June 24, according to our partner, Carbu.org.

This particularly concerns diesel. The average price of this fuel increased from €1.726/L to €1.742/L over these few weekend days. An increase of €0.016/L on average in France. Which translates, naturally, differently depending on the region of the country.

This is even worse when we compare these prices to those of June 11 and 12. Diesel was then priced at €1.685/L on average. Which represents an increase of €0.057/L in a few days. In some stations, the price to pay was even below €1.60/L. This could go down to €1.586/L.

Gasoline also on the rise

This upward trend is also felt for gasoline. This to a lesser extent, however. Thus, between June 12 and June 24, the average pump price for SP95-E10 increased from €1.806/L to €1.828/L. Which represents an increase of 0.022 €/L over these few days.

This increase is particularly noticeable between June 21 and 24. The price rose by no less than 10 euro cents between those days. Too bad, in mid-June, the price of this energy was close to falling below €1.60/L in certain stations. It was sometimes displayed at €1.625/L.

Oil prices are soaring

This upward trend is correlated with that of oil prices, which are picking up in recent days. The price of a barrel thus gained between seven and eight dollars, between June 4 and June 24.

The barrel of Brent is now around 84 dollars. However, 20 days ago, it was only around $77. For the other reference, WTI, the price is currently 80 dollars. It was around $72 at the start of the month.

All of this, of course, has an impact on prices at the pump. It remains to be seen whether this increase will last over time. In the meantime, fuel costs more. Bad news, as summer vacation departures loom for many citizens.
