A year after its release, Baldur's Gate 3 continues to keep players busy. The arrival of mods has attracted followers, and now Larian Studios finds itself obliged to calm the enthusiasm of some.
Larian Studios may have moved on to the sequel, but there's no question of finishing with Baldur's Gate 3 anytime soon. Throughout the year, the game received major updates, bringing their share of new features. By popular demand, the mods arrived and the success was immediate with more than 50 million creations downloaded by the end of October. Some promised features are still awaited, such as photo mode, but the next patch of the newly announced game has a completely different objective.
A console patch is coming for Baldur's Gate 3
More than a year after its release, BG3 continues to fascinate players. Many people are immersing themselves body and soul into GOTY 2023 for yet another run. The game's replayability is monstrous at its core, but when mods come into play, it has a whole new flavor. Earlier this year, Larian Studios finally rolled out support for community creations in Baldur's Gate 3, and it's been a blast. New customization options, gameplay, crazy mods… it's hard to resist adding a few. Then there are the diehards who have no limits. Some have gone so far as to download a hundred mods… even on consoles. The Belgians are forced to calm things down and are planning a new update for Baldur's Gate 3 for this purpose.
Larian has thus confirmed the upcoming deployment of a hotfix for the PS5 and Xbox Series versions of the game, forcing some players to sort things out. In order to compensate for instability and performance issues for those who have overused the mods, saves with more than 100 content installed will become temporarily unplayable. The studio then recommends that the community only activate “mods with which they will be safe to play in order to maximize the stability” of the game. Once this Baldur's Gate 3 console patch is active, the maximum number of creations installed will be limited .
A second hotfix will be deployed immediately to restore access to backups that are too demanding, at least once the players concerned have cleaned up their hundred mods. The more reasonable ones will not have to worry: the next update of Baldur's Gate 3 will not affect their saves in any way.
