Death of little Émile: investigators are “not certain” that the child was lost alone

This is an important step for the parents of little Émile, whose death was confirmed after the discovery of several of his bones in the hamlet of Haut-Vernet, nine months after his disappearance.

Death certificate signed soon

According to BFM TV, the death certificate of the 2 and a half year old boy should be given by the investigating judges and then signed in the coming days by the mayor of Vernet, François Balique. This should allow his family to begin the administrative and civil procedures linked to the death of their child, and to ultimately recover his remains.

However, the investigations are far from over, a source close to the investigation told BFM TV. The origin of Émile’s death remains to be clarified. The hypothesis according to which the little boy was lost alone in the forest on July 8, 2023, would not be favored. “ If we were certain that the child was lost, we would stop everything. And we don’t have that certainty at all. We are far from it and we are still working to not let anything slip by. »

Expertise still in progress

Fifteen investigators are mobilized to find out what could have happened to the little boy, as the first anniversary of his disappearance approaches.

At the beginning of June, the public prosecutor of Aix-en-Provence confirmed that “ in-depth expertise » were in progress. The objective is to determine if the child died violently, if he fell, or if he received a blow, for example.

On March 30, it was a hiker who found the young boy’s skull and teeth. Subsequent research led to the recovery of other bones.
