The investigation into the assassination of Jean-François Servetto is accelerating. Jeremy Benati, was indicted and placed in pre-trial detention this Friday, June 21 for “murder and theft by an organized gang” and “criminal association” by an investigating judge of the specialized interregional jurisdiction (Jirs) of Marseille. Information confirmed by Nicolas Bessone, public prosecutor of Marseille.

According to a source close to the investigation, “This is a significant step forward in the investigation, which has confirmed important elements.” According to our information, the investigations would have made it possible to link this man to a car used in the incident.

The other people arrested were released

This Tuesday, June 18, the research section of the Corsican gendarmerie and the judicial police of Haute-Corse made seven arrests in the north of the island, in this same case. The other people were released, without any charges being filed at this stage.

Jean-François Servetto, 56, unfavorably known to the justice services for acts linked to organized crime, was hit in the chest by a single projectile, in his house located in the hamlet of Poggio-Mezzana. A bullet propelled by an ambush shooter, lurking in the night, about 80 meters from his target.

His wife, present at the home, had notified the emergency services. Jean-François Servetto died from his injury during his transport to Bastia hospital. The investigation into this homicide was quickly taken over by the specialized interregional jurisdiction (Jirs) of Marseille.

On February 1, 2021, Jean-François Servetto escaped an assassination attempt in Santa-Lucia-di-Moriani.

Hit by a projectile in the hand while he was driving a car, he was only slightly injured and was able to flee. The Jirs of Marseille also took up the matter.

Silvareccio Survivor

Jean-François Servetto was best known for being the sole survivor of the Silvareccio massacre, which took place on July 3, 2013. Three people died in this ambush on a mountain road in Castagniccia.

In the victims’ vehicle, firearms and bulletproof vests were found by investigators.

The latter were convinced that it was a “punitive expedition” project against a backdrop of conflict between rival criminal gangs. This is what caused Jean-François Servetto to appear, in May 2016, before the Bastia criminal court. He was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for conspiracy to prepare one or more assassinations. At the bar, he denied the version of the facts presented by the prosecution.
