First there was this robbery, in the Foch district. Shortly before 7 p.m., Wednesday November 13, at least one individual armed with explosives robbed a gold buying shop located at 20 cours Franklin Roosevelt, in the sixth arrondissement of Lyon.

A passerby says he encountered several hooded men on electric scooters but the police only mention one kidnapper.

This individual fled. After which “passersby panicked, the police advised them to enter the stores to protect themselves”says the manager of a ready-to-wear brand located opposite the target store, which has “50 to 100 police officers” in the street.

Metro stations are closed and road traffic cut off on the Franklin Roosevelt course. The police asked traders to close their shops and evacuate the premises at 7 p.m. to carry out a mine clearance operation.

Before fleeing, the kidnapper left explosives on the shop window. According to our colleagues at Le Progrès, it was a 200g stick of dynamite. It exploded under the supervision of deminers, according to the Tribune de Lyon.

This is why an explosion resonates in the neighborhood around 9 p.m. “We heard a loud noise, as if a ten-story building was collapsing”says Sophie Ballas, a resident of rue Duguesclin who first “believed to be an attack”.

Yannick Simonneau was sitting in front of the television when this “big boom” resounds in his living room and pushes him to barricade himself in his home. He specifies that he lives ten minutes on foot from the robbery. “In six years here, I have never seen this”he comments, worried about the security of the sixth arrondissement, “normally the quietest district of Lyon”.

The gold buyback shop is closed this Thursday, November 14. To date, the suspect has not yet been arrested. We do not know if any loot was stolen but an investigation is open, reports the Lyon police. No casualties have been reported.
