Downtown Rouyn-Noranda was completely paralyzed today.
This is due to a gas leak which was detected in an alley on rue Perreault, around 9:25 a.m. this morning.
And as a precaution, electricity was cut off in all areas surrounding the city center.
So nearly 10,000 customers were deprived of power, and many stores and restaurants were also closed for a few hours.
And in all, around twenty commercial and residential buildings had to be evacuated preventively.
Firefighters and an Energy team remedied the situation.
Our journalist, Anthony Dallaire, spoke with Stéphane Royer, the director of the Fire Safety Service of the City of Rouyn-Noranda.
