Jakarta, November 13 (VNA) – Indonesia and Japan agreed on November 12 to start implementing the Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) for the implementation of bilateral cooperation in rights trading of carbon emissions between the two countries.
Special Envoy of the Indonesian President to UNFCCC COP 29, Hashim S. Djojohadikusumo, affirmed that the Indonesian government is ready to implement the agreement signed with Japan to strengthen bilateral trade collaboration carbon emission rights.
The ARM agreement is the first global model of bilateral cooperation between countries under the Paris Agreement.
Meanwhile, Japanese Deputy Minister of Global Environmental Affairs Yutaka Matsuzawa said he was happy to be present at the Indonesia Pavilion to discuss further efforts to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. .
He affirmed that the discussions can intensify collaboration between the two countries to accelerate the reduction of GHG emissions.
He said that based on this mutual recognition agreement, Japan wants to formulate and develop concrete projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Indonesia and that, through this experience, the two countries can contribute to the global reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
Previously, Indonesia signed the mutual recognition agreement document on October 18, 2024 and Japan on October 28, 2024.
The mutual recognition agreement is based on the principle of equality between Indonesia’s carbon credit system and its partner countries. In the carbon credit system agreement, Indonesia and Japan mutually recognize mitigation methodologies, emission reduction calculations, monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) system and credit certification carbon.- VNA
