The toll is very heavy. A deceased person. Another, estimated to be in critical condition by emergency services. And three victims, whose condition is not considered critical.

The accident, which occurred this Tuesday, June 18, 2024, around 5:20 p.m. near the town of Vernantes, north of Saumur and east of Angers (Maine-et-Loire), involved three vehicles as well as a heavy goods vehicle, traveling on the departmental road 767, which links Vernantes to a place called La Ronde, south of Vivy.

Quickly on site, the emergency services, coming from Saumur, could only note the death of one or one of the protagonists of the tragedy. At this time, it is impossible to determine whether the victims came from one or more vehicles involved in the accident.

Around twenty firefighters mobilized

After receiving treatment, the injured people were transported to the various medical units in the area. The accident mobilized seven intervention vehicles and nearly twenty firefighters.

Is this a collision? Did weather conditions or road conditions play a role? For the moment, the circumstances of the tragedy remain to be determined; an investigation will have to shed light on what happened.

Contacted, Alexandra Verron, the public prosecutor of Saumur, could not be reached this Tuesday evening.
