“A first vehicle which was traveling in the direction of Illiers-Combray – Chartres, in which there were five young people, collided with another vehicle which was traveling in the opposite direction, in which the elderly couple was,” said Mr. Blanc. “The first vehicle then collided with a third vehicle which was also coming in the opposite direction. The first vehicle burst into flames. The five occupants died in the fire,” added the chief of staff.
In the third vehicle, a 23-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man were injured, one seriously. They were transported to the Chartres hospital center. Traffic was completely cut off on this secondary route to allow rescue operations.
