Four Lensois are participating in the Euro: Brice Samba with France, Frankowski and Buksa with Poland, and Kévin Danso with Austria. Note that these three teams compete in the same group. Two players also stood out in their first match of the competition despite the defeat of their respective teams.

The first match in Pool D pitted Poland against the Netherlands this Sunday afternoon. The two Lensois, Frankowski and Buksa, started the match as starters. Although Poland was solid, they were dominated throughout the match and ended up breaking down in the final minutes of the match against a nation stronger than them.

However, the Poles, and more particularly Adam Buksa, have nothing to be ashamed of with their performances. The Lensois, loaned this season to Antalyaspor in Turkey, knew how to be opportunistic and score on one of Poland’s rare opportunities. He opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a furious header from a corner. Established following the absence of Robert Lewandowski, the Lensois perfectly knew how to seize his chance. Although he was not voted man of the match, Buksa was his team’s highest-rated player. Although Poland lost, Buksa has certainly won big points with his coach Probierz who could start him again for the next match against Austria.

A Kevin Danso full of good intentions

For the second match in Pool D, it was defender Kevin Danso’s turn to face the French. Like his teammates, the player was under pressure during the first period, being too aggressive and making several errors. After a more than mixed first half for Danso, he re-mobilized in the second half, like the rest of his team, and was able to make his experience speak for itself by scratching dangerous balls into the area as during the intervention on Kolo Muani in the 75th minute.

Despite results that did not live up to their performance, Danso and Buksa were able to show their respective qualities. The two players will face each other this Friday at 6 p.m. during Poland-Austria.
