An accident, a novel by Marion Desjardins (Editions Anne-Carrière)

Marion Desjardins is a journalist and writer. An accident is his fourth novel.

Vincent, although he wants to be called Luis, is not a man like everyone else. He is above all an artist. He can play the trumpet without a trumpet! He knows Armstrong’s entire repertoire! But when his back hurts, he can no longer play.

Luis suffers from obesity. As a result, he feels rejected by society. He is rejected. He is alone. Excessively alone. But he doesn’t complain about anything. Except when he has pain.
Throughout the book, we discover Luis’ life. His past. His childhood, his adolescence. His family. His father. What happened with his father?

And then, Luis has a sister. A funny sister who constantly reminds him of his accident. How did this accident happen that almost cost him his life? Luis doesn’t remember anything…

He remembers what he did to his father. He remembers that very well.

But how did he end up on the street at a very young age? And why ?

From the first page, the reader is drawn into Luis. He tries to understand it. As Luis tries to understand the world around him, without judgment. Without any illusion either. Luis is pushed aside by society. People make fun of him just because he’s fat. One left behind…

An accident. Is that really Luis’s problem?

An accident is a very good novel, both deep and light. Both a social diatribe, with a beautiful pen, and the portrait of a man who borders on solitary madness. A subtle analysis of our not always human society!
