Large fire on the Lyon ring road, thick smoke visible in the sky

It is around 8:30 a.m. this Tuesday, June 18, 2024, when a heavy goods vehicle catches fire very close to Lyon.

According to firefighters, the disaster occurred on the Laurent Bonnevay ring road near Vénissieux, not far from Ikea. Significant resources emergency services are deployed in the area.

Intervention still in progress

Shortly before 9 a.m., more than twenty Rhône firefighters were on site to completely control the fire.

A fire started from the trailer of a truck which stopped on the emergency lanenot far from the Porte de Parilly.

This includes, for firefighters, being sure that the flames do not spread to other vehicles or vegetation. No injuries is not to be deplored.

A huge plume of smoke

The fire caused a column of smoke visible for several kilometers around. Clouds which have been observed as far as Villeurbanne, on the other side of the city.
