The cities of Bern and Bienne will submit a joint application file to host Eurovision in 2025. The two cities, which present themselves under the slogan Bern United, benefit from the support of the Bernese Executive Council.

The main event would take place in Bern in the new exhibition hall, which should be ready on time. Events related to the Eurovision Song Contest would take place at Biel where Nemo comes fromthe two cities announced in a press release on Thursday.

The City of Bern intends to contribute to the costs for a sum of 7 million francs and the City of Bienne for one million francs. The government will submit to the Grand Council a request for a framework credit, in particular for costs arising from security measures.

Zurich candidate

Zurich is a candidate for the organization of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in May 2025. Its Municipality announced this on Thursday. The most populous city in Switzerland thus joins Geneva, Basel and Bern/Bienne among the official contenders.

With the Hallenstadion and the neighbouring exhibition halls for the event, with the Landiwiese park on the lake as a fan zone and with the congress house for hosting the Eurovision fan club evenings, Zurich has the right infrastructure and attractive locations, writes the city executive.

The Municipality submits to the municipal parliament a framework credit of 20 million francs, intended to support organizational costs. The other cities having announced the submission of a candidacy are Geneva, Basel and the duo composed of Bern and Bienne, city of origin of Nemo, winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. The SSR will make its choice at the end of August.
