Wounded by gunshot at the end of April in Biscarrosse (southwest of France), Kendji Girac claimed to have wanted to “simulate suicide” after a domestic dispute. The singer, however, changed his version and the procedure was dismissed, the Prosecutor’s Office announced on Monday.

“Since May 10, I haven’t given you any news, because I had to take care of myself,” the singer said this Thursday in a video posted on his Instagram account. In a white t-shirt in an ice cream setting, Kendji Girac would like to apologize for his actions. “I regret everything that happened. Before the accident, I had developed bad habits. I got into a spiral, which I wouldn’t wish on anyone. Despite the advice of those around me, I got lost.”

“I almost lost my life. My daughter almost lost her father. I don’t know what happened,” admits the singer, visibly moved. “I want to go back to being the boy I was.” He says he is getting help at the moment to get better. “My goal is to make people happy.”

The 27-year-old artist wanted to thank his fans for their kindness and ask them for forgiveness. “It is now up to me to show you who I am, to regain your trust, because action is needed and I will do everything to live up to it,” Kendji Girac pledges.

Drunk and on cocaine

The singer “returned to his first statements, indicating that in view of his alcoholism and his cocaine intake, he was not aware of what he was doing with this weapon and that he did not want to do pressure on his partner,” detailed the public prosecutor in Mont-de-Marsan, Olivier Janson, in a press release.

His partner, also interviewed, indicated “that she did not consider herself a victim of psychological violence”, he added, concluding that the offense of psychological violence, “insufficiently characterized”, had therefore caused the subject to classification without further action.

In his first statements, the winner of the 2014 edition of “The Voice” explained that he was very afraid to hear his partner talk about leaving and that in a moment of panic, he in turn wanted to scare her by simulating a suicide.

Two citizen contributions

The investigations also revealed “the commission of two criminal offenses”: acquisition and possession of a category B weapon and illicit use of narcotics, according to the same source.

“As Mr. Girac has no criminal record and he was also able to appreciate the seriousness of these offenses, he was asked, as an alternative measure to prosecution, to pay two citizen contributions,” he said. specified Mr. Janson, referring to the payment of a sum for the benefit of an association helping victims. The artist also had to provide proof of health care for six months in order to obtain the classification of these procedures.

Kendji Girac was hospitalized on April 22 near Bordeaux for a serious gunshot wound to the chest. According to analyses, he was heavily alcoholic, at more than 2.5 grams per liter of blood, and had consumed cocaine during an evening and a night of partying, during which he notably went to the casino with friends.
