Thursday, November 14, Maël Deplanque and Greta Schrodër, both students in first class, specializing in humanities, literature and philosophy (HLP), will go to Loudon, in Vienne, to award the Renaudot prize for high school students 2024. Céline Saint-Jean , French teacher, and Emmanuelle Capdepuy, professor and librarian, who organize the event, will accompany them.
It was a long process that involved the 21 students in this class. Five of them, in second grade last year, are participating for the second time.
Four works were in the running since the novel “Jacaranda”, by Gaël Faye, initially in the selection, received the 2024 Renaudot prize.
The selection, made up of contemporary authors, shared the students. “I appreciated the documentary and historical aspect,” says Maël about Olivier Norek's novel, ''The Winter Warriors''. “It wasn’t my first choice,” admits Greta. But I admit that I learned a lot. »
Pride and interest
Lily Rose admits to hating reading. “But I wanted to finish reading,” she continues, “and it was interesting! » Zoé and Manon appreciated this contemporary reading “which talks about things that concern us”. They are also proud to participate in an election that will influence readers and also writers, especially the one who will be awarded the prize!
In this chapter, everyone recognizes the usefulness of reading for the duty of memory, about past events which influence the present. Another benefit of all this work: discussions on current readings help fuel topics of conversation. We share our impressions of “The Dream of the Jaguar”, considered as confusing as it is captivating. Or, while appreciating the talent, we don't connect with the story… So many points of view to broaden our way of reasoning.
We will not know the choice of the two works voted for by the 21 students, made by the two delegates: it must be kept secret until the final vote.
