Summer has not yet completely shown the tip of its nose that already a film is crowned a summer success. Expected in theaters on this side of the Atlantic on Wednesday June 19, 2024 (we can’t hide the fact that we can’t wait!), this sequel to a previous hit from Disney/Pixar studios has already found a good part of its audience ! In just a few days of operation, it made $155 million in sales in America and $295 million at the worldwide box office. An exceptional record this Father’s Day weekend, which establishes the animated film as the best start in history in its category, on a global scale. In terms of domestic operation, it is the second best startup behind The Incredibles 2, the highly anticipated sequel to a Pixar studio classic. A dazzling success, guaranteed to arouse a whole host of emotions in the spectator.
And the best start at the global box office for an animated film goes to…
We were waiting for him, he’s arriving in France! Vice-Versa 2 arrives on the (very) big screen nine years after a touching first part. In 2015, Vice versa arrived like a UFO at the cinema. The film told the story of the not always simple life and emotions of little Riley, while traveling through her brain district to discover Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust and Anger. Building on its success, Pixar’s 15th feature film grossed $858.8 million, was presented in the official selection out of competition at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and won the 2016 Oscars for best animated film. These staggering figures and these prestigious awards, however, only place Riley and his emotions in 20th place (or 19th depending on sources) in the box office rankings of animated films in the world. The most profitable to date being the remake of Lion King released in 2019, with its 1.6 billion dollars in revenue. He is followed by Frozen 2 (1.4 billion), Super Mario Bros. the film (1.3 billion) and Snow Queen (1.2 billion). But the hegemony of these films could well be threatened by the sensational start of Vice-Versa 2.

A five-star cast for Vice-Versa 2
Almost 10 years after the first part, Riley is now 13 years old. She’s a teenager, with all the upheavals that that brings. The team composed of Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust and Fear sees new emotions arriving. Anxiety, Boredom, Envy, Embarrassment and Nostalgia join the party and disrupt the daily life of the other emotions which had already had so much difficulty working hand in hand in the first film. Rich in twists and turns, this sequel recalls many former voice actors to interpret emotions. Also, Joie is still played by the sparkling Charlotte Le Bon (Amy Poehler in VO), Gilles Lellouche still lends his voice to Colère (Lewis Black in VO), Mélanie Laurent is still Disgust (Mindy Kaling in 1 and Liza Lapira in 2 in VO), Pierre Niney remains Fear (Bill Hader in 1 and Tony Hale in 2 in VO) and Marilou Berry keeps the role of Sadness (Phyllis Smith in VO). To give voice to the new emotions specific to adolescence, the casting expanded and welcomed Adèle Exarchopoulos (who had tried dubbing for the first time on a previous Pixar film) to play Ennui in both languages and the voice actress Dorothée Pousséo to personify Anxiety (Maya Hawke in original version). An eventful sequel that is still as tender as the previous part, to be discovered very quickly in the hexagonal rooms. Maybe she will surpass all expectations and reach the top of the box office? In any case, we’re off to a good start!
